Q: Why did you decide to make a travel journal for kids?
A: My motivation was to have a travel journal for my own daughters that would help prompt them with essential questions while we were on family road trips. We had made these informally in blank notebooks in previous years, but this was a way to keep all of their lists, travel reflections and memories in one place.
Q: Why are there multiple versions?
A: I wanted to make sure that these could work for every family or scenario — a more compact printed and bound version is preferred by our family, but some like to have separate pages where you can put them in a scrapbook or other memory book or binder for homeschooling or classroom work, so we are offering a downloadable printable version as well.
Q: What was your favorite part of creating this resource?
A: Working with my daughters! They were my first product testers and gave me feedback on if they liked where the design was going. They also practiced writing on the pages to make sure the lines were appropriately sized for the amount they wanted to write and the size of their handwriting. We wanted to make sure it was just right before offering it to the world!
Q: You’ve been hand making wooden Montessori materials, what made you decide to start creating notebooks?
A: We initially began Essential Montessori to make materials for our oldest daughter before she was born – and we just celebrated her tenth birthday! Our ideas for educational products have always come from what we truly wanted and needed as a family. Now that we have been homeschooling for three years we are full of lots of ideas for fun ways to incorporate our experience as formal and non-formal educators with what has been working for our homeschooling family. As always, we hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them!
